Welcome Message

Dear Colleagues,

This is my great honor to serve as President for the 45th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Toxicology (the 45th JSOT). The annual meeting of JSOT has long history back to 1975, starting as a small study group of JSOT foundation. I am the seventh president appointed from the pharma-industry sector, thus it is honor as well as a great challenge for me.

The theme of the 45th JSOT is “Interactive: Evolving outcome of toxicology research to real world”. Toxicological sciences are including various research areas, therefore taking interdisciplinary approach to contribute a “real world” is very important mission. To achieve this mission, it is necessary to carry on a wide range of basic research, risk assessment and safety assurance based on the up-to-date scientific knowledge. In addition, the result of risk communication makes developing the security of civic community. In this long journey, collaboration and interaction would be required among industry, government and academia, civic community and different areas of expertise. Hoping this conference can offer the opportunity to communicate with diverse academics and sponsors.

The conference program will include an open lecture to the public, continuous education courses, special lectures, educational lectures, oral and poster presentations, as well as best presentation awards of young scientists, we will also hold symposiums and workshops according to “Interactive”. Focusing on the latest research subjects with the Toxicological Sciences will be selected by 30 members of the planning committee will make an extensive program.

Another aspect of “Interactive” is joint hosting the 45th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Toxicology and the 40th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Clinical Toxicology (the 40th JSCT, President: Professor Takeshi Shimazu, Department of Traumatology and Acute Critical Medicine, Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine). We will hold the conferences in the same venue and open to free access both participants who are holding either name card. This makes further development between our “interactive” relationships, also it will be no surprise, we will plan a joint symposium.

The 45th JSOT is held at Osaka International Convention Center from July 18 (Wed) to 20 (Fri), 2018. The 40th JSCT is July 20 (Fri) and 21 (Sat), 2018. It will be scorching hot the outside because of just ended the rainy season, however inside the venue and neighborhood facilities are ideal condition to stay all day and build up your knowledge more.

As bits of knowledge of commercial city Osaka is called birthplace of Japanese pharmaceutical industry. Dosho-machi district near the venue has several pharmaceutical museums displayed Edo period items which is about 400years old. Our poster shows the ancient Chinese god of medicine Shin-no who is enshrined in the Sukunahikona Shrine. Why don’t you go for a walk during a break?

I look forward to seeing all of you at Osaka in July 2018.

Sincerely,

Mamoru Mutai
